It all comes down to this.
Week 14 of the college football season is where championships are won and playoff berths are decided.
The biggest game on the schedule features No. 1 Alabama and No. 4 Georgia. It's a rematch in the same venue of last year's dramatic College Football Playoff championship game. This time, the SEC title is on the line and the guarantee of a spot in the field this season. The Tide could still make the top four with a loss, but they don't want to leave things to chance.
If Alabama does hold serve, the focus shifts to two other championship games.
Oklahoma has risen to No. 5 in both the polls and the playoff rankings. A win against No. 9 Texas would allow the Sooners to avenge their only loss of the season and give them a great argument for inclusion in the field with their fourth consecutive Big 12 championship.
The lone challenge to their place would come from Ohio State. The sixth-ranked Buckeyes face No. 21 Northwestern in the Big Ten title game. They'll take the field Saturday evening knowing what has happened with both Georgia and Oklahoma. They'll know if an impressive victory against the Wildcats, who have won seven consecutive Big Ten games, might be enough to influence the committee to pick them.
Beyond the games with playoff implications, there are other intriguing story lines. No. 11 Washington and No. 17 Utah will square off for the Pac-12 title and a berth in the Rose Bowl. The Utes have never played in Pasadena. The Huskies haven't been since the 2000 season.
No. 20 Boise State and No. 23 Fresno State meet for the Mountain West title, and the winner could possibly make the New Year Six if Central Florida were to lose to Memphis in the American Athletic championship game.
