LSU says postgame altercation at Texas A&M came after Tigers coach with Parkinson's got hit in the chest

After Texas A&M beat LSU Saturday in a bonkers game that tied the FBS overtime record (seven) and set a new points record (146), there were a couple of on-field altercations.

LSU director of player development Kevin Faulk, a former Tigers and NFL running back, scuffled with someone wearing an on-field credential.

Faulk’s fist is closed in this photo, which makes it look like he’s throwing a punch, but I haven’t seen video of the incident to confirm that:

The cause of the altercation, per the LSU side: the man in the red A&M shirt hitting LSU assistant Steve Kragthorpe, who has Parkinson’s disease, in the chest.

The Daily Advertiser quotes both Kragthorpe ...

“Out of nowhere, I got nailed,” Kragthorpe said in a phone interview while he drove back home from the game Sunday afternoon. “I didn’t go down, but I clutched over. I was like, ‘Damn, he got me right in my pacemaker.’ Then it started fluttering like he jostled it.”

... and Faulk:

”It’s unfortunate this situation happened,” Faulk said Sunday in a phone interview. “It got out of hand. But I was just behaving as my mom and dad raised me. This guy hit Coach Kragthorpe in the chest. I just stepped in. It just happened.”

Rumors have circulated that the A&M person in question is Cole Fisher, a nephew of Jimbo Fisher’s. Those are unconfirmed.

An A&M official told the Advertiser he didn’t know who Cole Fisher was.

It does seem like the person accused of hitting Kragthorpe is at least affiliated with A&M.

There are hundreds of people on the field at any given college football game, many with different credentials that go to people with different functions (media, security, VIPs, team staff, band and cheerleading staff, and the like). And after the game, there were plenty of people who look like regular fans milling around on the field.

But that guy’s dressed like some kind of support staffer or team-connected person would be, and the Dallas Morning News’ Ben Baby shot a video of the man going right up to Jimbo Fisher on the head coach’s way off the field, then engaging Fisher in conversation:

It feels unlikely that some random guy would have gotten Fisher’s attention so promptly.

There’s a lot we still don’t know, obviously.

We’ll update this post as needed and as more information becomes available.
