Sources: Red Bulls close to agreeing new deal with Chris... - The Athletic

HANOVER, N.J. – After stepping in mid-season and leading the New York Red Bulls to their third Supporters’ Shield title since 2013, it appears that Chris Armas will be receiving a bit of job security in the near future.

Multiple sources tell The Athletic that the Red Bulls are closing in on a new deal for Armas, who was elevated to head coach on July 6 after Jesse Marsch left to join the staff of RB Leipzig. Sources said that the deal is a new contract but acts like an extension of his existing deal, and also indicated that it was likely to be offered to Armas regardless of whether the Red Bulls won the Supporters’ Shield or MLS Cup this season.

It is a contract that is certainly deserved. Under Armas, the Red Bulls went 12-3-3 to close the regular season, surpassing Atlanta United and winning the Shield in the process.
