Shooting guard Alec Burks is happy to be the newest member of the Cleveland Cavaliers and hopeful he is “in a place with more consistent minutes for him,” according to a report from Eric Woodyard of the Deseret News.
Burks was was acquired in the trade with the Utah Jazz for Kyle Korver. Along with Burks, the Cavs reportedly received a pair of second-round draft picks (2020, 2021).
“Burks is in good spirits and ready to turn the page because the rotation wasn’t working in his favor with 15.8 minutes per game,” Woodyard reported.
Until Wednesday’s trade, Burks was the second-longest-tenured member of the Jazz, the team selecting him with the No. 12 overall pick in 2011. He has come off the bench for most of his career.
Burks and Cavs swingman Rodney Hood were teammates in Utah for three-and-a-half years. They may be competing for the starting shooting guard spot once again.
Burks, 27, is 6-foot-6 and carries career averages of 9.6 points and 43 percent shooting. He is more of a mid-range specialist than a 3-point shooting extraordinaire. He is averaging 8.4 points on 41 percent from the floor this year.
