The New York Red Bulls switched managers midseason and won the Supporters' Shield in 2018. And it looks like the manager who helped deliver that is set to stay.

The Athletic's Kristian Dyer reported on Thursday that the Red Bulls are "closing in on a new deal" with head coach Chris Armas, who replaced Jesse Marsch in July after Marsch departed to join RB Leipzig's coaching staff.

Armas, 46, has been with the Red Bulls organization since 2015, when he joined as an assistant coach. Helping New York win a Supporters' Shield in 2015, the former US international, who played for the LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire from 1996-2007, posted a 12-3-3 record to close out the MLS regular season this year after taking the manager's role, as the Red Bulls surged from behind to capture the Shield on Decision Day presented by AT&T.

The Red Bulls are in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Championship, with the home leg of their series against Atlanta United taking place on Thursday night, albeit with a 3-0 disadvantage entering the second leg.
