Texas flag flies inexplicably atop KU campus landmark on Senior Day

The most intriguing sight from the first half between Kansas vs Texas on Friday had absolutely nothing to with football. In fact, it didn’t even take place inside David Booth Memorial Stadium.

Instead, the focus shifted to nearby Fraser Hall, the tallest building on KU’s campus and visible from nearly everywhere in Lawrence. The top of Fraser holds two flagpoles that are officially the highest point in the state. On any given day the two flags flying from the local landmark are that of the United States of America and the University of Kansas.

Except that wasn’t the case on Friday. With Texas in town for Kansas’ Senior Day game, the KU flag was conspicuously missing from Fraser Hall. In its place was the Texas state flag.

This constituted a campus crisis. From the time the flag was first tweeted about at 11:30 a.m. it only took 30 minutes for Kansas officials to rip it down and replace it with a KU flag.

According to the Lawrence Journal-World, “few details were immediately available, but emergency radio traffic indicated that the apparent prank was reported to campus police.”

As far as pranks go, this is pretty good. Kansas beat Texas in football a few years back, which could be behind Friday’s shenanigans. Maybe it’s also because Texas’ mascot Bevo wasn’t allowed to make the trip to Lawrence due to a Kansas rule prohibiting live mascots in the stadium.
