Long before Daniel Cormier signed on the dotted line to face Derrick Lewis this Saturday night (Nov. 3, 2018) at UFC 230 inside Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., “DC” had his eye on a big-money fight against Brock Lesnar.
While he knows he has a monumental task in a few days in “The Big Apple,” Cormier still hasn’t forgotten about “The Beast Incarnate,” Plus, if Lewis shocks the world and defeats Cormier, then the “champ-champ” can kiss his Lesnar fight goodbye.
But if all goes as planned, Daniel may make another quick turnaround when asked about the possibility of taking on Brock at the recently-announced UFC 233 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which is set to go down inside The Honda Center in Anaheim, California on January 26, 2019.
“January 26 in Anaheim,” pondered Cormier. “Is Brock eligible by then?” asked “DC” during a recent media scrum earlier today (Thurs., Nov 1, 2018 in New York City.
Of course, before Lesnar gets the chance to step back into the Octagon, he has to get through ha six-month United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) window, as no exemption was gifted this time around.
Judging by this, Brock should be clear to fight by the proposed date.
Still, Daniel couldn’t help but to take a dig at Lesnar by saying he looks to be complying with USADA given his ever-shrinking frame.
“Well, he looks smaller on WWE right now? You see his face? He looks tiny. Yeah, maybe on January 26. I think I have a wrestling tournament that weekend, But we will see,” added Cormier.
Despite their tussle at the conclusion of UFC 226, Daniel says he actually likes the ex-heavyweight kingpin.
“I like Brock, I really do. Brock just isn’t going to take no shit. Brock isn’t going to mess around with you. But, I like Brock. I have known him for a long time, I met Brock in 1998,” said Cormier, before he was interrupted by a gift of chocolates handed to him by a reporter.
Should the stars align and Cormier get booked to defend his 265-pound title against Lesnar with a win over “Black Beast,” it will be a huge blow for Bellator MMA, as the Viacom-owned promotion is set to stage the finale of its Heavyweight Grand Prix on the very same night, also in California.
But it’s not like it’s a competition or anything.
