Another veteran gone: Raiders cut Bruce Irvin

The Raiders have cut defensive end Bruce Irvin, league sources said. Irvin leads the team with three sacks, but his playing time has been cut back severely the last month, culminating with him only playing nine snaps in the 34-3 loss to the 49ers on Thursday. 

The Raiders are on the hook for the rest of Irvin’s $8 million this season. Irvin, who turned 31 on Thursday, had 18 sacks and 11 forced fumbles in 39 games for the Raiders, after he was signed in 2016. 

There were a couple of teams interested in trading a late-round pick for Irvin before the league deadline Tuesday, but the $3.8 million remaining on his salary was too big of an obstacle. So there is a good chance he will clear waivers after the team officially makes the move.
