Miramar police waiting for Giants' DeAndre Baker to turn himself in - New York Post

As of Friday afternoon, DeAndre Baker had not yet turned himself in to authorities but his attorney has been in contact with detectives concerning the arrest warrant issued by the Miramar Police Department.

Baker, the Giants cornerback taken in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, is charged with four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault stemming from an incident Wednesday night in the Miami area.

Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar is charged with four counts of armed robbery with a firearm from the same incident.

“Obviously we’re hoping just to simplify things that they turn themselves in within a reasonable amount of time,’’ Tania Rues, the public information officer for the Miramar Police Department, told The Post. “Yes, there are warrants out for their arrest and if they do not turn themselves in, this is just in general terms, if someone with a warrant for his arrest with these types of charges, if they don’t turn themselves in within a reasonable amount of time obviously there are other avenues we can take.’’

Rues did not set parameters on “within a reasonable amount of time,’’ calling the timeframe “not an exact window. It really depends on the charges and if there has been communication with the attorneys and negotiations and things like that.’’

If Baker is found guilty of holding a semi-automatic weapon, he could face a mandatory minimum of 15 years for each of the four armed robbery charges, under Florida law.
