When the NBA Board of Governors speaks to Commissioner Adam Silver on Friday, the call is not expected to include a finalized return-to-play plan.
Per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the National Basketball Players Association and teams are still discussing how to incorporate the "three most serious plans" to potentially bring the NBA back to finish this season.
Friday's call comes ahead of the expectation that the league will provide teams with guidelines for recalling players who left their home market when the season was suspended March 11 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe reported teams were anticipating those guidelines by June 1, which would serve as a "formal ramp-up" to resume this season.
NBA spokesman Mike Bass confirmed the league is in negotiations with the Walt Disney Company about using ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, as the host site for teams and restarting the season before July ends.
As the NBA continues to explore potential return scenarios, it's unclear what format the league will use.
Wojnarowski and Lowe noted options being discussed with the NBPA include the possibility of playing regular-season games, some type of play-in tournament or modified playoff formats and whether all 30 teams will finish the season.
