LeBron James slept through the Lakers’ holiday party because that’s what legends do - SB Nation

There’s a lot to dissect in this LeBron James tweet.

Man I’m washed!! I went to bed at 8:30 last night and woke up at 7:30am. Man what! I literally slept for 11 hrs. Missed my company Xmas holiday party and everything. ‍♂️!!

Now look, I’m not saying that James is lying, but also this sounds like the biggest excuse in the world for wanting to skip your office holiday party. That said, sleep is also the best excuse for skipping any party — holiday or otherwise.

Let’s just break down the mechanics of this for a sec. In this scenario any of the below need to happen:

1. James decided to take a nap without setting an alarm, or any kind of reminder he had a holiday party to go to.
2. Nobody in his house decided to wake him up to remind him there was a holiday party.
3. At no point did he wake up for water, a trip to the bathroom or anything — thereby remembering he was supposed to be at a party.
4. James distinctly uses the phrase “went to bed,” denoting this was a planned and organized sleep session.
5. Nobody from the Lakers decided to check in or text LeBron-freaking-James to see if he was coming to the party.

Again, I’d like to make it abundantly clear that I am 100 percent behind the idea of sleeping through parties like the Grinch until those stupid Whos woke him up with their caroling. Holiday parties aren’t good.

In the taxonomy of workplace parties the order is:

1. Halloween.
2. Bring your dog to work day.
3. Happy hour.
4. Surprise birthday featuring daytime cake.
5. “We ordered sandwiches because we’re working through lunch.”
6. Holiday.

I just like that James is so determined to dodge the fact he missed the party that he’s willing to call himself “washed.” That’s why he’s the king.
