The sudden move of UFC 232 from Nevada to California in less than a week’s notice had caused some disarray among the fighters in the card. Women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes, for one, was not pleased about the the state income taxes they are required to pay in California.
But according to UFC president Dana White, the decisions that were made that led to the current circumstances are already the best ones they can come up with.
“Listen, it’s not an easy decision to make,” White said during the UFC 232 pre-fight presser on Thursday (transcript by MMAjunkie). “You have to pull the trigger and you’ve got to make moves.
“You can’t make everyone happy. Not every fan, every fighter, but we gave the fans in Las Vegas the opportunity to get tickets first, and the tickets are cheaper. We had over 3,000 people buy tickets here that had tickets in Vegas. We did everything we could to make it better. We did what we could do.”
White has been all about saving the card and have everybody involved get paid what is due them, instead of cancelling the card and not making money at all.
“It is what it is. It’s either that or not fight and nobody gets paid anything. It is what it is. We had to move it. It’s costing everybody more money. It is what it is.”
“Who is going to pay my income tax in California?”
UFC 232 happens this Saturday, December 29th at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
