Over the past week, the Phillies added Asdrubal Cabrera, Wilson Ramos and Aaron Loup without surrendering any prospect of significance. The team improved for the stretch run, but didn’t compromise any of the future in the first year of what could be a long window to win.

This was Klentak’s first deadline as a buyer since taking the GM gig in Philly in 2015. By adding an All-Star catcher, professional hitter and one of baseball’s most successful lefty-on-lefty specialists (all without surrendering a ton), Klentak set up the team to pursue a division title this summer.
The blockbuster for an ace wasn’t there, so the Yankees beefed up depth with J.A. Happ, Zach Britton, and Lance Lynn. This team is now (even more than before) a lock for the playoffs, and still has an outside chance to win the AL East.
