Jose Mourinho’s future at Manchester United appears increasingly bleak, after his side were thrashed by Tottenham Hotspur at home.
United’s hope of bouncing back from a dismal 3-2 defeat at Brighton last week lasted just 45 minutes before Spurs scored three goals without reply in the second half, condemning the 20-time champions of England to a second defeat in the opening three games.
Mourinho, whose future at Old Trafford already appeared at risk, then stormed out of the post-match press conference. The Daily Mirror claims United’s worst start to a league campaign in 26 years has left the Portuguese on the brink, indicating his elongated applause towards the United fans at the end of the game felt like a farewell.
The Daily Mail also believes Monday’s defeat could be the beginning of the end for Mourinho, while The Guardian claims the Portuguese went “into near meltdown” in the post-match press conference, when he demanded “respect, respect, respect.”
As if Mourinho did not have enough on his plate, the rumors surrounding Paul Pogba simply refuse to go away. The Frenchman was again largely anonymous against Spurs and the Daily Express reports Barcelona defender Gerard Pique as saying he would love to play alongside the United midfielder.
Pogba has been linked with a move to Barcelona over the last two months and Pique, who played for United between 2004 and 2008, said he would welcome the Frenchman to the Camp Nou. The Spaniard, however, added he has no intention of returning to the Premier League.

While there was no trace of Pogba on Monday, Christian Eriksen was at his mercurial best, dictating the tempo as Tottenham tore United to shreds. Luckily for Spurs fans, it would appear as though the Dane could be set to remain in London for the foreseeable future.
In an email sent to the Associated Press and picked up by a number of British newspapers, Paris Saint-Germain categorically denied their interest in Eriksen, dismissing the suggestion they had made a bid for the Denmark international.
Across London, The Telegraph reports Gary Cahill is determined to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place in the starting line-up, despite being left out of the squad for the first three Premier League games of the season.
The defender, who captained Chelsea last season, is reportedly determined to convince Blues coach Maurizio Sarri that he deserves to be in his plans. Meanwhile, Danny Drinkwater is unlikely to leave Chelsea until January, despite having also missed the first three games of the season.
Elsewhere, Sky Sports claims Manchester City defender Oleksandr Zinchenko is set to join Spanish side Real Betis after turning down a move to Wolverhampton earlier this summer. The Ukraine international was initially going to move on loan but according to ESPN, Betis are keen to sign on a permanent basis for $19 million.
Finally, the Daily Mirror reports Aston Villa are planning to offer Jack Grealish a new deal to dissuade bids from Premier League clubs. The midfielder was on the verge of joining Spurs in the summer but Villa held firm and rejected a $32 million bid.
