WR Allen Lazard joins Davante Adams on Packers’ reserve/COVID-19 list - Acme Packing Company

The bad news keeps rolling in from Green Bay as the Packers announced that wide receiver Allen Lazard was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Just yesterday, the team announced that defensive coordinator Joe Barry would likely miss Thursday Night Football due to a positive COVID test while wide receiver Davante Adams, who is vaccinated, must also have tested positive to be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Including Malik Taylor, who was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on the 15th, the Packers now have three receivers who are missing time due to the virus.

For Lazard to play on Thursday against Arizona, he would have to pass two separate COVID tests with a negative result, at least 24 hours apart. With the team leaving for the desert on Wednesday, it would take nothing short of immediate negative tests as soon he is eligible to take them, along with the help of a private plane, for Lazard to suit up for the Packers this week.

Here are the season-long stats from the Packers receivers this season and their statuses:

  • Davante Adams: 744 receiving yards (reserve/COVID-19)
  • Allen Lazard: 184 (reserve/COVID-19)
  • Randall Cobb: 179
  • Marquez Valdes-Scantling: 76 (injured reserve-designated to return)
  • Amari Rodgers: 33

At the moment, Cobb, Rodgers, and Equanimeous St. Brown are the only members of the Packers’ 53-man roster who are likely to suit up for the team on Thursday. St. Brown, who recently was signed to the 53-man roster after moving up from the practice squad, has yet to catch a pass for the team in 2021.

The Packers do have two practice-squadders at receiver: Juwann Winfree and Chris Blair. At the very least, one would assume that Winfree, who saw two offensive snaps as a practice squad call-up in Week 6 against the Chicago Bears, would be elevated on game day to play against the Cardinals.

There is still the outside chance that Valdes-Scantling can practice this week and return from the injured reserve list to play on Thursday, but the team hasn’t given the indication that Valdes-Scantling, who has been battling a hamstring injury, is in a position where that scenario is likely.

Update: Allen Lazard is unvaccinated per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and will miss the Arizona Cardinals game in Week 8.
