Seattle Seahawks defensive end Darrell Taylor was carted off the field with his head stabilized after a scary collision on Sunday night.
Taylor, late in the fourth quarter of Seattle's overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field, was diving to tackle Steelers running back Najee Harris when the crown of his head made direct contact with the torso of teammate Al Woods, a 330-pound defensive tackle. His head jerked back awkwardly. As the play died down, Taylor slowly rolled over to his back before remaining down on the field.
Taylor was stabilized by medical staff on the field during a lengthy delay before he was carted off in a terrifying moment that resulted in both teams standing in a circle together on the field.
NBC's Michele Tafoya later reported that Taylor was alert and had movement in all of his extremities. He was transported via ambulance to a local hospital's trauma center for further evaluation.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said after the game that the initial CT scans were clear, which they saw as a good sign. More tests, though, still needed to be done.
“He was so mad to be taken off the field like that," Carroll said. "He wanted to get up, they wouldn’t let him do it … man he didn’t want any part of that.”
