This is a problem for the Seattle Seahawks. A major problem, in fact. Seattle is 2-3, 1-1 in the NFC West. The defense is off to a horrendous start in the passing game for the second consecutive season. Until that changes, Seattle’s hopes of being a playoff team are contingent upon Wilson’s ability to play quarterback.
And right now that forecast isn’t very good.
Wilson is expected to miss six to eight weeks after having surgery to repair a ruptured middle-finger tendon, according to multiple reports on Friday. NFL Network reported Friday evening the surgery was more complicated than expected and required screws, likely pushing his timetable beyond a month.
“I’m really going to try not to talk about the details of it because I don’t know,” coach Pete Carroll said Friday morning. “I heard a lot of stuff, but I’m passing along information improperly if I do.”
Postgame X-rays were taken of Wilson’s finger, which collided with the hand of Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald in the third quarter of Seattle’s 26-17 loss Thursday night at Lumen Field. Wilson returned for three plays, two of them dropbacks, but he wasn’t able to grip the football well enough to throw it.
“If he could have thrown the football and held on to it, he would have done it,” Carroll said.
