It only took three plays for Wisconsin to find the end zone. A 36-yard bomb from Graham Mertz to Chimere Dike on the second play of the drive put the Badgers in the red zone, and on the next play, Mertz delivered a perfect ball to Dike in the corner of the end zone for an 18-yard score.

The Wolverines picked up some crucial points before half but squandered an opportunity for more. On third-and-5 from the Wisconsin 29, Cade McNamara had an open Daylen Baldwin on a crossing route but threw it behind him, leading to an incomplete pass. Michigan settled for a 47-yard field goal from Jake Moody but left some time on the clock for Wisconsin.

Graham Mertz hit tight end Jake Ferguson for a 19-yard gain on the first play of the drive, and the Badgers were able to build some momentum for the first time this game. They extended their drive with a fourth-and-1 conversion from their own 45 as fullback John Chenal plunged up the middle for 2 yards. But their drive stalled after DJ Turner stepped up and made a good tackle on Chez Mellusi on a screen. It looked like Mellusi had the potential for a big gain, but Turner stopped him 2 yards short of the marker on third-and-10. Wisconsin settled for a Collin Larsh 34-yard field goal.

The Wolverines couldn’t take advantage of great starting field position. Cade McNamara tried to force a deep ball to Cornelius Johnson in double coverage that fell incomplete. Another incompletion to Roman Wilson forced a third-and-long, where McNamara settled for a pass to Luke Schoonmaker underneath for a 5-yard gain. Michigan opted to punt. Its passing attack remains inconsistent. McNamara is 9-of-17 passing for 86 yards.

Michigan’s defense is on a mission today. After two Jalen Berger runs for a total of 3 yards, Wisconsin was flagged for delay of game. On third-and-12, David Ojabo beat his guy off the edge and sacked Graham Mertz for an 8-yard loss. The Badgers have yet to pick up a first down, while Mertz is 0 for 4 passing.

Cade McNamara zipped a pass to Roman Wilson near the Michigan sideline for a 17-yard gain to moved the chains. On the final play of the quarter, Blake Corum rushed for 2 yards and third-and-4 from the Wisconsin 45.
4:17 – Wisconsin drive starts on own 25
A couple of big plays from Michigan’s leaders on defense to force a third straight three-and-out. Linebacker Josh Ross burst through the line of scrimmage and met Jalen Burger in the backfield for a 2-yard loss that led to a third-and-9. Christopher Hinton picked up his first sack of the season on third down, but Aidan Hutchinson also had the pressure on Mertz while also drawing a holding penalty. Wisconsin has just 3 total yards on three drives.

7:18 – Michigan drive starts on own 40
The Wolverines showed some more creativity on this drive, including a flea-flicker that led to a touchdown.
On first-and-10 from the Wisconsin 34, Hassan Haskins quickly tossed the ball back to Cade McNamara after taking the handoff, and McNamara hit Cornelius Johnson on a post route for a touchdown. Earlier in the drive, Michigan picked up a first down on fourth-and-2. This time, the Wolverines went to the air on fourth down and moved the chains with a 6-yard completion to Roman Wilson. Michigan is now 2 for 3 on fourth down. The Wolverines have scored first in every game this season.

Real good start from Michigan’s defense. Its front is getting pressure and Graham Mertz has had no where to throw the ball. Freshman linebacker Junior Colson delivered a big hit on Mertz on third-and-10, leading to a wobbly pass that was nearly intercepted. Wisconsin went three-and-out for the second straight drive.

Wisconsin nearly took the lead with a safety, but Cade McNamara evaded pressure in his end zone and hit Blake Corum out of the backfield for a 7-yard gain on third-and-7. But it continues to be a rough start for McNamara and Michigan’s receivers. Two straight incompletions to Cornelius Johnson and a short pass to Erick All for 5 yards led to a Brad Robbins punt.

Strong series for the Wolverines’ defense, forcing a three-and-out. After two runs Chez Mellusi runs for minimal gains, Mazi Smith deflected Graham Mertz’s pass for an incompletion. Wisconsin decided to punt from Michigan territory instead of going for it on fourth-and-4.

A couple of gutsy calls from Jim Harbaugh to open the game. Michigan went for it on fourth-and-1 from its own 34 as Hassan Haskins dove for a first down. But the Wolverines tried to run up the middle on fourth-and-1 on the next set of downs, and this time Haskins was stuffed at the line of scrimmage. Cade McNamara completed 2 of 4 passes for 7 yards on the drive, and two were dropped by receivers.
