Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer apologized Monday for a video that surfaced over the weekend in which a woman who was not his wife danced on him.
The video was distributed on social media after the Jaguars lost to the Bengals in a 24-21 Thursday night game in Cincinnati.
"I just apologized to the team for being a distraction," Meyer said during his Monday press conference. "It's stupid. I explained everything that happened and I should not have put myself in that position."
Meyer added that he apologized to his family, saying they were "upset" about the video.
Meyer, who has roots in Ohio and coached the Ohio State Buckeyes from the 2012-18 seasons, said he did not travel back to Florida with the team and stayed so that he could spend time with his grandchildren and attend an event.

"There was a big group next to the restaurant," Meyer continued. "They wanted me to come over and take pictures, and I did. (They) tried to pull me out on the dance floor, screwing around, but I should've left."
In the video, Meyer is seen seated by a bar and appears to face toward the center of the room while a woman dances with her back toward him.
The Jaguars fell to 0-4 after the loss and are one of only two winless teams in the NFL, alongside the Detroit Lions. Meyer is in his first season as the head coach of the Jaguars, a team that is in the middle of a rebuild after it selected quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft.
So far, the Jaguars have looked largely overmatched, though they held a seven-point lead early in the fourth quarter against the Bengals before allowing Cincinnati to score 10 unanswered points, including the 35-yard, game-winning field goal from kicker Evan McPherson as time expired.
"I've always been so defensive of them," Meyer said when asked how the team responded to his apology. "When Trevor told me he wanted to go to Vegas for his bachelor party, I said, 'My gosh, man, be careful with who you surround yourself because I've seen this happen.' The team, I spoke to a bunch of leaders one-on-one, I spoke to all the players, they're good. They're focused on Tennessee. I apologized again for being a distraction and a coach should not be a distraction."
Meyer said he also talked to Jaguars owner Shad Khan about the incident said Khan was "very supportive" and that he also spoke to general manager Trent Baalke "at length."
The Jaguars will face the AFC South-rival Titans (2-2), who are currently in first place in the division, on Sunday. And, as the team prepares, Meyer is concerned about potential fallout over his handling of this matter.
"I am concerned about that," Meyer said. "I have a very good relationship with our players. I've dealt with this, on the other side, with staff members and with other things. I've dealt with it. So, to say I'm concerned, yeah I am concerned. I've just got to do right."
