5 winners and 4 losers from the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the Eagles - Arrowhead Pride

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 42-30 on Sunday afternoon, evening their record to 2-2. Let’s take a look at Chiefs who stood out — for good or for bad:

Winners

Mike Danna: Another week as a starter, another solid performance from the second-year EDGE. Danna was active against the Eagles, giving us some impact plays — including a pair of sacks. The Chiefs haven’t looked great on the defensive front, but Danna has been a bright spot.

Tyreek Hill: Hill put in a huge performance, rewarding both Chiefs fans and his fantasy football owners with a remarkable 186-yard, three-touchdown performance by the fastest player on the planet. He did it by using his speed and quickness, but it was his route- running that might have been the most impressive. He was consistently getting separation against all defenders — and on his last touchdown, Hill really put the cornerback in the spin cycle.

Patrick Mahomes: A really steady and consistent performance led Mahomes to his first four-touchdown game of the season. With the running game also working well, the offense was humming. Sure... there was an interception — but that was partially due to Mahomes being hit, which affected how the ball came out. But after that, Mahomes just kept coming back again and again until they had the chance to close out the game. Instead of just running out the clock — or risking a punt or fumble — Mahomes recognized Hill was running free and went for the jugular, lobbing a strike to put the game out of reach.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire: Clyde was fantastic again, following up last week’s performance with another gem. Once again, he had over 100 yards rushing and a receiving touchdown. Against the Eagles, he averaged over seven yards per carry — and was decisive and explosive in space. The offensive line deserves a lot of credit for opening huge holes for Edwards-Helaire — and everyone else — en route to a dominant 32 rushes for 200 yards, which is 6.3 yards per attempt. It was great to see the team be able to control the game by running the ball when they wanted to. As this season moves along, that’ll come in handy.

Andy Reid: Big Red’s Hall of Fame resumé just had another record added to it: Reid notched his 100th win with the Chiefs. He’s now the only coach to do that with two different franchises — and deserves a lot of credit for the high expectations we have for this team. With a couple of tough losses and a hospital visit, it hasn’t been an ideal year for Reid so far. Hopefully he can take a few minutes to enjoy this one in his old stomping grounds before he looks forward to the challenge of the Buffalo Bills.

Chris Jones: While the criticism of Jones on the EDGE might be a little overblown, it is becoming harder to see any impact from him — regardless of position. This week, he got a hit on the quarterback. He also should have had a fumble recovery, but the ball bounced away from him, off an official, back to him — and then into the arms of an offensive lineman. It wasn’t a great look as his DPOY campaign appears to have come to an unceremonious end.

All receivers not named Tyreek Hill: I was curious to see how the team’s complementary receivers would react after Josh Gordon joined the team. It could have gone two ways: they would either feel the pressure of Gordon on their heels and have a big game to prove they still deserve targets — OR the pressure would cause them to press and make mistakes. Apparently there was a third outcome: they would do basically nothing. Byron Pringle led the group with 23 yards, Mecole Harman had 16 and Demarcus Robinson didn’t record a catch. Maybe there’s a reason Gordon is here?

Alex Okafor: The good news is after Sunday, Okafor has doubled his season total for tackles. The bad news is that after Sunday, he has only two. He’s yet to record a sack — but hey, at least he got penalized for a late hit out of bounds to help extend a fourth-quarter touchdown drive.

The Chiefs pass defense: It won’t be a fun film session figuring out what went wrong in coverage this week. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts picked through the defense all afternoon, with receivers and tight ends running free. All of the Chiefs linebackers looked a couple of steps slow, miscommunication issues continued, there wasn’t enough pass rush, the cornerbacks were overmatched against receivers — AND they didn’t have anyone to cover tight ends. It seems like this defense won’t be fixed any time soon.
