Tom Brady, Peyton Manning trash talk: A look at the shots fired by NFL stars during golf match - CBS Sports

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning teed off in "The Match: Champions for Charity" with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson on Sunday despite rainy conditions. And it didn't take long for the longtime NFL rivals to begin trading trash talk; it began on the practice tee, before the match even began.

Manning first took a jab at the six-time Super Bowl champion. When asked who would have been his caddie (if they were allowed) during the competition against against Brady, the former Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos quarterback didn't pull any punches.

"It's hard to get to him," Manning said on the TNT broadcast as Brady waved. "Do you bring Eli (Manning)? Could do that. Do you bring Nick Foles? Maybe. I was thinking maybe (Bill) Belichick. Have Bill Belichick caddy for me -- and just to see how that kind of, would have worked.

"I mean, it may not have been good for me, either."

Of course, Manning went with the two quarterbacks who were able to beat Brady in a Super Bowl. Eli Manning defeated Brady twice -- in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI with the New York Giants -- winning the game's Most Valuable Player award both times. Foles defeated Brady with the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII, also taking home MVP honors.

Brady completed 61.3% of his passes in those Super Bowl defeats, throwing for 1,047 yards and six touchdowns to just one interception. As for Belichick, he's the only head coach Brady has played for in his 20-year career before the six-time Super Bowl champ signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason. Brady and Belichick went 6-3 in nine Super Bowl trips, with the six Super Bowl wins the most all-time for a coach and quarterback.

It didn't take long for Brady to fire back at Manning. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB said Peyton's "more of a dome quarterback" and called Manning's comments "a cheap shot."

Manning spent the first 13 years of his career with the Colts, winning a Super Bowl with the team in the 2006 season. Manning has completed 65.2% of his passes in a dome, throwing for 24,217 yards and 193 touchdowns to just 84 interceptions (99.1 rating). He was 63-29 in 92 career dome starts compared to 95-41 in outdoor starts, throwing for 37,003 yards, 270 touchdowns to 138 interceptions (94.0 rating) -- completing 64.6% of his passes outdoors.

Brady was smiling through the interview, especially when Manning reveled Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski should be his caddie.

"He would have brought Gronkowski, because Gronk does whatever Tom asks him to do," Manning said. "Gronk, go wrestle. Take a year off, come play in Tampa with me later. Then caddy for me."
