Marshawn Lynch confirms talks with Seattle Seahawks about potential return in 2020 - Field Gulls

Frank Gore is 115 years old and he just signed with the New York Jets, so why can’t 34-year-old Marshawn Lynch return to the Seattle Seahawks for this upcoming season?

Lynch was an emergency signing for the Seahawks at the end of 2019 after losing Chris Carson, C.J. Prosise, and Rashaad Penny to season-ending injuries. He’s obviously a free agent right now, and the team did not close its doors on a longer reunion.

As he told ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt on Monday, the Seahawks are in talks with his agent about signing a new contract.

“Well, it’s almost on that ‘expect the unexpected,’” Lynch said (transcript via ESPN). “But just as far as right now, what I do know is, Imma keep it solid. My agent [Doug Hendrickson] has been in talks with Seattle, so like I said, we’ll see what happens. If it works out and I get back up there, it is what it is. And if not, s---, I’m lookin’ good. So I ain’t really trippin’ too much.”

Off the couch (not literally, but close to it), Lynch scored four touchdowns in three games, including two in the Seahawks’ 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round. Unfortunately, a “not in his prime, not in his best physical shape” Lynch also ran behind a very banged up offensive line and only amassed 67 yards on 30 carries.

I really cannot honestly tell you with a straight face that Lynch was a net-positive for the offense. The analytics crowd will rightfully state that the odds of Lynch being a net-positive even in limited snaps should he return to the Seahawks are fairly low.

Here’s my retort:

Football is better with Marshawn Lynch. Make him a fullback, short-yardage back, I don’t really care. His mere presence on the roster makes me giddy.

Are the Seahawks pretty damn set at RB with Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny (after he returns from injury), DeeJay Dallas, and Travis Homer? Absolutely. None of them is Marshawn Terrell Lynch.

But that’s just the fan in me. I know the ramifications of bringing him back and he looks like a complete shell of himself. Maybe you’ll disagree with me in this very sensible poll that I’ve created.
