The NFL needs to get its story straight.
There’s a video that exists of Kareem Hunt shoving and kicking a woman during an altercation in Feb. 2018, but he was signed by the Cleveland Browns this week while the NFL investigates.
Meanwhile, Louisiana Tech defensive end Jaylon Ferguson won’t be attending the scouting combine later this month because of a fight at McDonald’s his freshman year.
Ferguson, the FBS’ career leader in sacks (45), was convicted of simple battery and paid a fine.
See, the NFL has a policy of barring someone from the combine “if a background check reveals a felony or misdemeanor involving violence.”
While Ferguson won’t be in Indianapolis, he’s still projected as a possible first-round pick in April.
Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs released Hunt on Dec. 1, but only after video of the incident surfaced. No arrests were made or charges filed, but the NFL placed him on the commissioner’s exempt list. Hunt likely is facing a suspension to begin the 2019 season.
The Browns are giving the talented running back a second chance, apparently fully aware of the PR disaster.
“We’ve done our extensive research,’’ Browns GM Jim Dorsey told reporters. “He’s extremely remorseful for that. I’ve always believed that if a person wants to better themselves and be a better person, I’m willing to give them a chance. I truly believe he’ll be a better man today than he was yesterday.”
