Report: 4 Jaguars players detained after altercation at London nightclub

Four Jacksonville Jaguars players were detained early on Saturday morning ahead of their game in London against the Philadelphia Eagles after an alleged altercation at a local nightclub over an unpaid bill.

The four players involved in the incident were safeties Barry Church, Ronnie Harrison, Jarrod Wilson and cornerback DJ Hayden, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The Jaguars did not release much information about the incident but did say that the players have been released from custody and are back with the team.

“We are aware that four of our players were detained over restitution of a bill,” the Jaguars said in a statement. “The matter is being resolved and the players are with the team. Any discipline will be handled internally.”

According to The Sun UK, the unnamed players attempted to leave the London Reign Showclub, but were stopped by security for having not paid their tab, which was “in the region of $57,000.” Rapoport reported that the players believed the bottles of champagne and “other high-end liquors” they were sent were comped, which is why they refused to pay when it showed up on their bill. According to Rapoport, “an argument ensued and local police made several arrests.” On Sunday morning, he also tweeted that five other players were reportedly at the club, but weren’t arrested.

No players were charged with a crime.

Sunday’s game at Wembley Stadium, which will mark the NFL’s third and final game in London this season, will be the Jaguars’ sixth in Europe since the NFL began hosting games there. Jaguars owner Shahid Khan recently withdrew his offer to buy Wembley Stadium.
