Reports: Leicester City's owner was on helicopter in fiery crash

Leicester City soccer club chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was on board a helicopter crashed and exploded into flames outside of King Power Stadium on Saturday, multiple British media outlets, including The Guardian and Sky Sports, reported. The BBC confirmed with a source close to the family confirmed that Srivaddhanaprabha was on board.

The English Premier League club's owner since 2010, was in the helicopter and no deaths or survivors from the crash have been reported yet. Srivaddhanaprabha was in attendance at Saturday's game.

The Guardian reports that Srivaddhanaprabha typically flies back to his home in London via private helicopter after games. The 60-year-old Thai businessman has been heavily engaged with fans in recent years, especially during the club's Premier League title in 2016.

The crash occurred an hour after Leicester FC's home 1-1 draw with West Ham United on Saturday, allowing most fans to be removed from the scene outside King Power Stadium. However, several eyewitnesses were present and described the helicopter clearing the roof of the venue (located in Leicester, England) and staying in the air for a short duration before spiraling out of control and eventually crashing and igniting. Emergency personnel was hailed to the scene shortly after the crash occurred.

“It just came out of the stadium already spinning, then down to the ground. Just in a spiral. It hit the ground with a big bang then burst into flames," Leicester fan and season ticketholder Tim Acott told The Guardian. "It’s over on the other side of the car park, I don’t think there were people there. I’m shaking like anything.”

“I rushed out and there were four fire engines and loads of police," witness Megan Blockley told talkSport.

Leicestershire (England) police could not be immediately reached when contacted by USA TODAY Sports on Saturday evening.

Leicester City FC released a statement saying it would provide a detailed comment later once "further information has been established."

Players from both Leicester City and West Ham tweeted praying hand emojis after the news broke.
