Olympian slammed for criticizing Ivanka Trump

WASHINGTON – An American Olympian who blasted First Daughter Ivanka Trump on Sunday for attending the Winter Games is catching heat for stepping into politics rather than standing on a medal platform.

Skier Gus Kenworthy posted a picture on Twitter of his US Olympic teammates in Pyeongchang and said he was so proud of his fellow Americans.

“Everybody here has worked so hard to make it to the Olympics and have the opportunity to walk in the closing ceremony! Well … Everyone except Ivanka. Honestly, tf is she doing here??,” he posted.

The post drew some support but also quick backlash from users who wished Kenworthy would have spent his time winning a medal rather than throwing out hate.

“She is there doing her JOB! Unlike some people Mr. 12th place,” posted one user Paul Honovi.

“So you finish in 12th place, and then tweet this to try your best to stay relevant. Grow up,” said user Keri Fleischmann.

Ivanka Trump led the US presidential delegation to the games for the closing ceremony and has dipped into some diplomacy as well.

Trump pressed for “maximum pressure” campaign against North Korea to halt its nuclear program while dining with South Korean President Moon Jae-in who had expressed optimism about diplomatic talks with their northern neighbor.

The Trump administration slapped North Korea with new sanctions on Friday.

Kenworthy, the 2014 defending silver medalist in Olympic ski slopestyle, had a disappointing Olympics and placed 12th overall.
During the Olympics games, Kenworthy has spent time promoting gay rights, calling for an end to dog meat farms and the taking on the Trump administration.

After the Olympic athletes of Russia took home the gold in men’s hockey, Kenworthy tweeted: “Russia’s biggest win since the 2016 US Presidential election!”

He got the most attention for his kiss with boyfriend Matt Wilkas on the slopes that NBC cameras caught for their viewers.

The couple will be bringing home a dog for adoption after it was rescued from a dog meat farm.

“Love is love is love!” Kenworthy said, expressing happiness that his gay kiss would be seen around the world.

But critics didn’t understand how the athlete could then turn around and throw such shade at Ivanka Trump.

“Why is it the ones who preach love have so much hate?” responded Twitter user Katie Kramek.

Meanwhile, Ivanka, a top White House aide, got a warm reception from other Olympic athletes and was even offered a medal.

Lauren Gibbs, a silver medalist in women’s bobsled, wanted Trump to wear her winnings.

“I feel like this almost is like trying on someone’s wedding band,” Trump said after Gibbs put it around her neck to try on. “Am I allowed?”

Trump raised the medal with one hand and wrapped the other around Gibbs as they posed for pictures.

“That is so cool,” Trump said.
