Nick Saban finally found some rat poison to suit his taste.
The Alabama coach has often used the term “rat poison” to refer to media storylines, positive or negative, that could distract his team from its play on the field. Former Crimson Tide defensive tackle and current Jet, Quinnen Williams, even used it on Friday when asked about a potential contract extension because of his strong play.
But the tables turned this week when Alabama played an unfamiliar role — the underdog — leading into Saturday’s SEC Championship against unbeaten and top-ranked Georgia.
After the Crimson Tide pulled off the 41-24 win over the Bulldogs, Saban had some fun with one of his go-to phrases.
“You guys gave us a lot of really positive rat poison,” Saban told reporters. “The rat poison that you usually give us is usually fatal. But the rat poison that you put out there this week was yummy.”
The win punched Alabama’s ticket into the College Football Playoff. The No. 1 Crimson Tide will play No. 4 Cincinnati in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day, while No. 2 Michigan will face No. 3 Georgia in the Orange Bowl.
