It appeared to be unanimous Saturday among the ESPN “College GameDay crew when picking who would win the SEC Championship Game between Georgia and Alabama.
With Zac Brown of the Zac Brown - and Georgia fan - in attendance as the celebrity picker, the panel broke down Championship Saturday.
“We started the season with Georgia-Clemson and this team has been consistent the whole year out,” Desmond Howard said of the Bulldogs, who are a 6.5-point favorite. “I don’t see any reason why Georgia can’t win this game. I’m going with the Bulldogs, maybe closer than most of the experts think.
Kirk Herbstreit there was one major aspect of each team that stood out to him.
“How often does Nick Saban get to come into a game as an underdog?” he asked. “You know they are going to come in with an attitude. Bryce Young has the ability to make plays.
“One thing that stands out to me about Georgia is this brotherhood. This love that they have for one another, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I can’t see that being denied today. Close game. Georgia secures an SEC Champinship.”
Zac Brown reacted: “All day long. My dad had a picture of Erk Russell on the wall. If the offense can’t score, they can’t win. Bulldogs all day long today. It’s our time.”
Lee Corso, meanwhile, is 6-1 with his SEC Championship headgear picks heading into Saturday’s game, losing only in 2008 when he incorrectly picked Alabama to beat Florida. Corso is 5-4 when picking Georgia, but has won each of the last five times he’s picked the Bulldogs. Corso has also won the last three times he’s picked against the Bulldogs.
With that in mind, he asked Brown a couple of questions:
“Zac you like Georgia, right? You like music, right? Listen to this please.”
He then cued Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” to a chorus of boos from the crowd.
“Zac, how did you like that song?” he asked.
“I think Larry Munson just rolled over in his grave,” Brown quipped.
“Well, I like it,” Corso countered. “I like the team that’s most desperate and that’s Alabama.”
