Jordan Spieth nearly falls into Lake Michigan hitting miracle Ryder Cup shot - New York Post

Jordan Spieth didn’t even see where his shot on the 17th hole landed. He was tucked underneath a cliff, stumbling down the side of it and trying to regain his balance before reaching the edge of Lake Michigan.

He stopped a few feet before the water, and turned around to face the roar of the crowd back atop the cliff by the hole — where his ball had stopped just feet shy of the pin. Spieth’s chip nearly salvaged a Whistling Straits Golf Course hole that started with Team USA partner Justin Thomas sending a tee shot into the rough, but Thomas missed the ensuing putt and sealed Team Europe’s lone match win of the morning.

The United States is aiming for just its second win in the past six Ryder Cups and are leading 3-1 after the morning foursomes. Thomas and Spieth lost to Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, but the Dustin Johnson-Collin Morikawa, Brooks Koepka-Daniel Berger, and Patrick Cantlay-Xander Schauffele teams all earned points for Team USA with their match victories.

Play continued Friday afternoon — with four-ball that started at 1:10 p.m. — and throughout the weekend with foursomes and four-ball again on Saturday followed by singles matches that are set for Sunday.
