NEW ORLEANS — Ohio State football coach Ryan Day continues to avoid specifics, but he again hinted Thursday that the Buckeyes will have more players available Friday for the Sugar Bowl against Clemson.
Ohio State played without 24 players in the Big Ten championship game victory over Northwestern on Dec. 18. Many of those players were out due to coronavirus testing protocols, though others were sidelined with injury.
ESPN’s Maria Taylor asked Day if the Buckeyes would have starters back for their College Football Playoff semifinal after Day departed the plane in New Orleans on Thursday.
“As you know there’s a protocol to come back,” Day said. “A lot of those guys are back in the protocol, and the’ve gotten stronger as the week’s gone on. But you don’t just jump onto the field after being out for an extended period of time.
“The plane’s a little bit more full than it was a week ago.”
Various OSU players are visible departing the plane behind Day in the video above. The Buckeyes touched down at 4:12 p.m. local time and bused to the Superdome for a walk-through.
