Justin Fields Finishes Seventh in Voting for Heisman Trophy | Eleven Warriors - Eleven Warriors

Justin Fields' hopes of winning this year's Heisman Trophy have officially come to an end.

The Ohio State quarterback finished seventh in the voting for this year's Heisman Trophy, ESPN revealed during its show announcing this year's Heisman finalists on Thursday night.

Fields, who finished third in voting for last year's Heisman Trophy, emerged as an early frontrunner for this year's Heisman Trophy after throwing 11 touchdown passes and just 11 incompletions in Ohio State's first three games. His candidacy for the award unraveled over the last six weeks, however, as the Buckeyes had three of their final six games before Heisman voting canceled and Fields struggled in two of the other three, throwing three interceptions against Indiana and two against Northwestern.

Winning the Heisman had been one of Fields' stated goals going into the season, and if Ohio State had been able to play more games this fall, he likely would have been right into the thick of the race for the award. Fields has said all along, though, that his biggest goal is to win a national championship, and he still has a chance to achieve that goal if he can lead Ohio State to two victories in the College Football Playoff, beginning with next week's Sugar Bowl against Clemson.

“Of course I want to win the Heisman and do all that stuff, but the team comes first, so if none of that happens, I’m fine with the national championship trophy sitting in the front of the Woody,” Fields said in August.

Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith and Florida quarterback Kyle Trask are the four finalists for this year's Heisman Trophy, which will be awarded on Jan. 5. Alabama running back Najee Harris finished fifth in Heisman voting, while Iowa State running back Breece Hall finished sixth.
