Eagles create weird Carson Wentz dynamic with Jalen Hurts NFL Draft 2020 pick - New York Post

In a second day stunner, Jalen Hurts is headed to the City of Brotherly Love, selected in the second round (53rd overall) by the Eagles, earlier than most experts expected him to go.

The former Alabama and Oklahoma star quarterback could be Carson Wentz’s backup, or possibly be used as a change of pace in select situations, where his speed and athleticism could be taken advantage of. Also, the oft-injured Wentz has struggled to stay on the field, so Hurts could see some action that way as well.

Wentz tweeted shortly after the Eagles made the pick.

“Welcome to the best football city in America brotha!” Philadelphia’s starting quarterback wrote.

Hurts has played the role of the backup before, spending most of his junior year on the sideline after losing his starting job to Tua Tagovailoa. He then transferred to Oklahoma for his senior year, and produced 53 touchdowns, 32 through the air and 21 on the ground.

Hurts could also be used in the Taysom Hill role, as a running back and wide receiver, as well.

Wentz signed a four-year contract extension through 2024 in 2019 The deal is worth $128 million, and up to $144 million with $66 million fully guaranteed.
