The Golden State Warriors are in Los Angeles to face the L.A. Clippers tonight, but all that anyone really cares about is DeMarcus Cousins’ 2019 debut for the two time defending champions.
I mention that the Warriors are the champs primarily to remind everyone who wants Steve Kerr fired, Draymond Green traded, or some 15th man center to save the day that this first place team is already quite good as-is — adding a true center just makes them that much more dangerous.
Oh, did I mention that he has a reliable shot from 3-point distance?
Wait ... he only made three out of four?!? Who needs him!
But seriously, I truly hope that this addition relieves some of the stress some people are apparently experiencing over regular season games that the Warriors are winning more often than anyone in the Western Conference to begin with.
In his interview with Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area about his debut today, Cousins urged fans to be patient with him and it’s hard to disagree with the message.
“I’m glad to be a part of this team,” Cousins said during his interview with Poole. “It’s been a long journey for me. Be patient with me. I’m putting in the work every single day to get back to (being) the player I was, or better. Just be patient.”
Expect Cousins to play under 30 minutes tonight. Expect Cousins to go through some growing pains. Expect him to maybe not be all that you’ve been imagining since the Warriors signed him.
But be patient and everything’s gon’ be aiight.
