Two LSU student-athletes were involved in a fatal shooting near Baton Rouge on Saturday after one person was found dead in the back seat of a truck in Scotlandville. The two student-athletes were taken in for questioning and remain in police custody, though they have not been arrested at this time.
How the NCAA student-athletes were involved in the incident remains unclear and it has been noted that the victim was not a student-athlete. The fatal incident took place shortly after noon, and the student-athletes called law enforcement after the shooting occurred and waited on site for the police to arrive.
It's been reported by WRBZ that the athletes in question were, in fact, LSU football players. Of course, this comes just a few months after LSU basketball player Wayde Sims was killed, as this community has unfortunately seen its fair share of tragedies of late.
The student-athletes were in the front of the vehicle in which the victim was shot.
LSU's vice chancellor and athletic director, Joe Alleva, made an announcement regarding the tragic incident, stating that the university's "main concern" was the well-being of their student-athletes.
This is a truly tragic situation and our prayers are with the families of those involved.
Police are continuing to investigate the situation and are scouring the neighborhood for more information regarding the tragic act of violence.
