Nick Diaz: My brother Nate can beat 'boring' Khabib Nurmagomedov and save UFC

Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz, who is allegedly a member of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight roster, was rooting for Conor McGregor to defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov in the UFC 229 pay-per-view (PPV) main event last Sat. night (Oct. 6, 2018) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

That’s because Diaz is not a fan of “The Eagle’s” fighting style, which relies too much on wrestling, but insists that he — along with his brother Nate — could handle the undefeated lightweight champion, who tapped McGregor after four rounds of action.

“You have to have a certain style to beat that type of wrestler on the ground,” Diaz said. “I think my brother can beat him. I definitely know I can beat him. Two things people want out of mixed martial arts right now, it’s more me and less you. Puts on a boring fight. It’s just a dirty way of fighting, holding somebody, giving them little hits.”

Dirty or not, it’s definitely effective. Nurmagomedov (27-0) has yet to meet his equal inside the cage and could clean out the division — if and when he ever locks horns with Tony Ferguson, who also tasted victory at UFC 229 in “Sin City.”

That might be up to Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), as Nurmagomedov will need to answer for his post-fight antics that left promotion president Dana White “sad” and “disgusted” with the Dagestani’s leapfrog off the cage.
