NFL Trade Rumors: The 49ers have reached out to the Vikings to acquire CB Cameron Dantzler - Niners Nation

The 49ers officially signed Dre Kirkpatrick to a one-year deal Tuesday afternoon. They also promoted CB Dontae Johnson to the active roster from the practice squad. To replace Jason Verrett and Raheem Mostert, both of who are on the Injured Reserve List, the 49ers signed LB Curtis Bolton and RB Kerryon Johnson.

Why is Raheem Mostert suddenly out for the season? CB pecking order? A 49ers mailbag

What are the biggest triggers that make Shanahan go off players? I’m guessing it’s not making the most of your potential. — Derek G.

I’d say the biggest is young players acting like they’re multiyear Pro Bowlers. That’s a ticket to the doghouse.

I don’t really care about his “dog house” status, but do you think a big reason receiver Trent Sherfield was featured more than Brandon Aiyuk was his ability to run block at the receiver position? Physicality was a big reason Dante Pettis fell in the depth chart. Could this be something Aiyuk needs to work on? — Scott H.

I agree that physicality is a strong theme when it comes to the receivers Shanahan has liked over the years (Pierre Garçon, Mohamed Sanu) and those who have frustrated him (Marquise Goodwin, Dante Pettis). But I don’t think that’s a problem with Aiyuk. I think the issue with him has been consistency and health. Remember that Lance’s first-ever pass in a preseason game was a flat-out drop by Aiyuk.

Report: 49ers inquired about a potential trade for Cameron Dantzler - ProFootballTalk

They inquired about a potential trade for Vikings cornerback Cameron Dantzler, David Lombardi of TheAthletic.com reports. Dantzler, a third-round choice in 2020, was a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game against the Bengals.

Patrick Peterson, Bashaud Breeland, Mackensie Alexander, Kris Boyd and Harrison Hand were the Vikings’ cornerbacks for the season opener.

The 49ers also have had contact with free agent Richard Sherman. Both sides are interested in a potential reunion further into the season, according to Lombardi.

How PFF graded Bosa, 49ers in up-and-down win over Lions

George Kittle — 83.9

Kittle scored a 90.9 receiving grade, which tied with Houston Texans’ Pharaoh Brown for the top tight end of the Week. Fifty-seven of Kittle’s 78 receiving yards came after the catch, which was the most of any tight end on Sunday.

Jimmy Garoppolo — 71.2

Garoppolo was under pressure on 7 of his 27 dropbacks, but had a perfect quarterback rating when under duress completing four of his five attempts for 112 yds and one touchdown. Garoppolo was also a perfect 5-for-5 for 184 yards and one touchdown on throws of 15 yards or more downfield.

NFL picks, predictions for Week 2: 49ers run over Eagles; Bengals, Colts, Giants keep upsets coming

Sunday, 1 p.m., FOX

This is one of the few NFC matchups between 1-0 teams, and the 49ers looked like a Super Bowl contender with a healthier team. Deebo Samuel and George Kittle will create mismatches, and San Francisco will build an early lead. The Eagles rushed for 173 yards in Week 1. San Francisco will make that job a lot more difficult.

Pick: 49ers 28, Eagles 21

49ers minutia minute: Brandon Aiyuk played a quiet 26 snaps; Nick Bosa shined

Defensive line: Arik Armstead 60, Nick Bosa 51, Samson Ebukam 44, Kevin Givens 42, Kentavius Street 42, D.J. Jones 39, Arden Key 38, Dee Ford 30, Zach Kerr 23

Bosa had a very strong game, and not just as a pass rusher. He penetrated from his right defensive end spot throughout the afternoon, including on a fourth-and-short run early on that would have just changed the tone of the game had the Lions converted. He, safety Jaquiski Tartt and linebacker Fred Warner all crashed in from the right side to stick the Lions with a loss of 1. The 49ers scored on the ensuing possession and never trailed in the game.

49ers’ Kyle Shanahan plans to discuss WR Brandon Aiyuk’s playing time ‘sooner rather than later’

“He’s got a better person behind him this year in training camp and with Aiyuk missing some time and how well Trent Sherfield played, and especially with Aiyuk missing some time heading into that game, it wasn’t a very tough decision (to play Sherfield more),” Shanahan said Monday, per the San Francisco Chronicle. “We were going to rotate them throughout the game. I think Trent ended up having 29 plays and I think Aiyuk had 25. So, that was about how we expected it to go. We wanted to split time like that.”
