Trauma to triumph: Alex Smith reveals why he came back to football and what he learned along the way
SportsPulse: Mike Jones connected with Washington QB Alex Smith to discuss his journey back from a leg injury that almost killed him. Smith reveals why he decided to come back and what he learned along the way.
Alex Smith's legs can't stay away from woes.
The Washington Football Team quarterback, who needed 17 surgeries after breaking both his tibia and fibula in a 2018 game against the Houston Texans, suffered a cut on his left leg during Monday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field.
In addition of the 17 surgeries on his right leg, Smith endured a severe life-threatening infection and also considered the possibility of amputation.
The cut on his left leg didn't seem to faze him as he just stood there with the training staff taping it up and blood streaming all over his uniform leg and cleats.
