Covington (Ga.) Newton Top247 2021 cornerback Nyland Green is all set to announce his college commitment on Tuesday morning and he’ll do so on CBS Sports HQ. The broadcast will begin at 10 am (EST) and can be watched from this link.
Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and Tennessee are among the finalists for the 6-foot-2, 183-pound Green who is tabbed by the Top247 as the country’s No. 2 cornerback and No. 19 prospect overall.
Both the Bulldogs and Clemson have 247Sports Crystal Ball forecasts logged in their favor and appear to be the top two heading into Tuesday’s announcement.
“Trust me it was a task,” his father Marvin recently told 247Sports said in getting it down to one school.
“When we got it down to the last two, we flipped a coin because the last two he wouldn’t of went wrong in the last two.”
Clemson, Georgia and Tennessee have had much of the buzz during the stretch run of the process.
“The important factors were his stability and then the environment of them not changing my son for him to be a different type of character of what we turned over to the school.”
The Green camp does not plan on notifying the schools of his decision.
“I think everybody will find out on that release date that he listed,” Marvin said, before going into what stood about about the Bulldogs, Tigers and Vols.
Regarding Clemson: “Their excellence and then plus their environment it’s hands down it’s incredible the spirituality at Clemson. We loved everything at Clemson.”
Regarding Georgia: “They just produce. Their production speaks for itself. We knew we wouldn’t go wrong with picking Georgia.”Regarding Tennessee: “We were looking at them as a program that could possibly turnaround and he can be part of the greatness of a program that’s going to turn around.”
247Sports compares Green to another Peach State product in defensive back in AJ Terrell who was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of last year’s NFL draft out of Clemson.
"Has excellent stature and length for the position," former 247Sports National Analyst Charles Power wrote in his evaluation. "Owns a lean build with room to fill out. Long-limbed with large hands. Is a bouncy athlete capable of making some above the rim dunks on the basketball court. Productive on both sides of the ball, playing receiver and corner. Shows high-level ball skills with the ability to track and high-point in contested situations. Can pluck the ball off the ground and come down with diving catches. Also works as a safety some for his high school team, showing range playing in cover two. Physical at the line of scrimmage and can use his length to disrupt wide receivers' releases. Shows fluidity in man coverage and can flip his hips and stay attached downfield. Will need to continue honing his cover technique and getting stronger but shows a promising skill set as a big outside cover corner. Projects as a multi-year starter at the Power Five level with the upside of developing into an early round NFL Draft pick."
