Listen to Episode 39 of 'Gang's All Here': Should Adam Gase be Fired? feat. Marty Lyons - New York Post

The Jets are just a flat out terrible football team from top to bottom. They proved that once again on Thursday night when they lost 37-28 to the previously winless Broncos, falling to 0-4 on the season. On the latest “Gang’s All Here” podcast with Brian Costello and me, we get into the loss and try and explain why Adam Gase is still the head coach of the Jets.

Coz opens up this week getting into a bad loss to a team starting an undrafted QB in Brett Rypien, who was making his first career start. He looks at the Jets having the lead late, but committing so many bad penalties, including the facemask that doomed them nullifying a third-down sack by Quinnen Williams. Coz believes firing Gase does not change anything and the lack of talent, mixed with injuries and players not performing is more to blame. I counter with Gase needing to be fired in order to light a fire into this team. I argue that Thursday night should have been the final straw for Gase, who almost is a lock to not be back this season.

Coz believes Gase will be gone, but either after the season or maybe they get a head start and do it in December if their record is still awful. He says the team needs a “CEO-like” head coach and not a coach that specializes in one side of the football as they have had with Gase, Todd Bowles and Rex Ryan. We also get into the defensive struggles, led by Gregg Williams and Steve Smith’s postgame comments on the defensive coordinator. We discuss how bad the Jets and Giants have been, the sad state of New York sports, Sam Darnold’s continued poor play, his one good run, his shoulder injury and whether he should have came right back in that game or not.

Former Jets defensive lineman, member of the “New York Sack Exchange” and Jets Ring of Honor, radio color commentator and now author Marty Lyons joined the show. Lyons says it’s hard to judge Gase with what he is working with. He get into the defense, all the personal foul penalties and the poor timing of them. Lyons discusses the rust with no preseason games, calling these games with no fans, how depressing it is in the stadium, the 0-4 start and what happens if that becomes 0-9. Lyons also talks about his new book, “If These Walls Could Talk.” It focuses on theJets and the Marty Lyons Foundation and what they are doing for terminally ill children. He wraps up talking about working with Bob Wischusen, how they have built good chemistry, the birthday message at the stadium Thursday night, Eric Mangini not opening up as a coach and Gregg Williams not answering his phone calls.
