Week 7 produced at least four games that would normally be the best in any other week. It really was a treat to watch dramatic finishes in Arizona, Atlanta, Cincinatti and Tennessee Add in the fact that the Kansas City Chiefs went on the road and dominated the Denver Broncos like they did, then all of a sudden we’re talking about an almost perfect weekend of football.
This week’s voters were Kent Swanson, Matt Stagner, Pete Sweeney, Ron Kopp and myself.
1. Kansas City Chiefs (1st)
Winning by 27 points in a road division game — when your offense doesn’t get out of second gear — is a good thing, right?
2. Pittsburgh Steelers (4th)
The last of the undefeated teams got a terrific win against Tennessee, but Ben Roethlisberger simply cannot allow good teams back into the game like he did on Sunday.
3. Seattle Seahawks (2nd)
Everyone wants to talk about DK Metcalf’s chase down tackle — and rightly so! It was awesome. Great hustle.
4. Baltimore Ravens (3rd)
A bye week just before they face the Steelers could be very handy.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6th)
Tom Brady might just be in the MVP race, everybody.
6. Green Bay Packers (7th)
After a humbling defeat to the Bucs, the Packers took their fury out on the poor Texans.
7. Tennessee Titans (5th)
So close to pulling off a spectacular comeback. They’ll still win the AFC South.
8. New Orleans Saints (9th)
3,000 fans were in attendance at the Superdome to watch the Saints make hard work of the Panthers.
9. Arizona Cardinals (11th)
Despite Kliff Kingsbury’s best efforts to lose the game, the Cardinals put themselves back into the race for the NFC West with a big win against the Seahawks.
10. Buffalo Bills (8th)
They won — but needed field goals to beat the Jets. Not great.
11. San Francisco 49ers (12th)
I just love watching this team run the football.
12. Los Angeles Rams (13th)
Good on the Rams for finally beating a team outside of the NFC Feast.
13. Cleveland Browns (17th)
Baker Mayfield started this game so badly! What happened after that was sensational from 2018’s #1 pick.
14. Indianapolis Colts (15th)
No game this week. The coaches are probably thinking of a way they can make their lives even harder than normal next week.
15. Las Vegas Raiders (14th)
Have the Raiders already peaked? Based on what we saw Sunday, they might have.
16. Chicago Bears (10th)
Wouldn’t we all want to be a fly on the wall the next time Nick Foles and Matt Nagy are alone?
17. Carolina Panthers (18th)
The Panthers’ road jerseys against the Saints’ home jerseys is one of the best uniform matchups in the league, no doubt.
18. New England Patriots (16th)
Maybe Tom > Bill?
19. Miami Dolphins (19th)
I personally agree with the decision to bench Fitz and bring in Tua. They’re not winning the Super Bowl this year. It’s time to see what the rookie can do.
20. Los Angeles Chargers (21st)
How come the Chargers defense stinks against everyone except Patrick Mahomes? Justin Herbert continues to impress.
21. Detroit Lions (26th) | This week’s high riser
Matt Patricia is now 12-24-1 as the head coach of the Detroit Lions. He’s catching up! Matt Stafford deserves so much more than the Lions have ever offered him.
22. Philadelphia Eagles (25th)
It’s good to see Carson Wentz look like his old self a little bit. With what’s going on in Dallas, the Eagles have to be considered the favorites in the NFC East.
23. Denver Broncos (22nd)
“Neck and neck,” they said. LOL
24. Minnesota Vikings (24th)
No game this week, so no reason to mention Kirk Cousins’ contract. Oops.
25. Houston Texans (23rd)
J.J. Watt was M-A-D in his postgame press conference. Not Mike Singletary mad — the silent type of mad.
26. Cincinnati Bengals (27th)
This team is getting closer and closer every week. You just know that one day they are going to put it all together.
27. Atlanta Falcons (28th)
Todd Gurley went full-on Ahmad Bradshaw on Sunday afternoon. But unlike the 2011 Giants, the Falcons didn’t get away with it.
28. Dallas Cowboys (20th) | This week’s big faller
We’ve kept this team in the top-20 for far too long. It’s about time they took a nose dive.
29. Washington Football Team (30th)
The hit on Andy Dalton took attention away from what was a very good win for the football team. I must also add congratulations to Ron Rivera for completing his chemotherapy treatment. Keep battling, coach.
30. New York Giants (29th)
Has any player in NFL history — besides Daniel Jones — ever received as much flak for a 75 yard run in which he didn’t fumble?
31. Jacksonville Jaguars (31st)
The Jaguars continue to take part in fun games. Their problem is that they don’t win them.
32. New York Jets (32nd)
The Jets’ two best performances of the season have come against the Bills, yet they’ve lost both games. If you tune in to watch them face Kansas City this week, you’re a true die-hard Jets fan.
