Tiger Woods makes his move by shooting 67 Saturday in third round of BMW Championship - USA TODAY

Tiger Woods still has work to do on Sunday in order to qualify for next week's Tour Championship in Atlanta. But he gave himself a shot Saturday morning with a 5-under 67 in Round 3 of the BMW Championship.

It was Woods' sharpest round in months and his best score since a final-round 67 at the Memorial in early June. He finally made a few putts and came close to something in the low 60s by leaving a few birdies on the table.

Woods made five birdies with no bogeys, his first bogey-free round of the season. It was a steady performance with no major miscues and a few clutch par saves, with two birdies on the front nine and three on the back. That included a 26-foot bomb on 16 and overall, Tiger had just 27 putts on the day.

He was tied for 26th and 7 under overall when he walked off the course, still well outside the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings and needing another low one on Sunday to have a chance to make it to East Lake.

Perhaps most impressive was the way in which Woods bounced back from an hour-plus rain delay - he obviously prefers to stay out there when he's already loose and has had trouble getting back in gear following delays. But, facing the daunting 232-yard par-3 13th on his first shot after play resumed, Woods put it in the center of the green and made a casual par.

So he finally got the low round he needed to create a spark and move up the leaderboard. Now we'll have to wait and see if it was too little too late as he prepares for Sunday's final round at Medinah Country Club.
