Four wallets will be handed to Kirk Cousins, but which will he take?
The Jets will be joined in the hunt for the to-be free agent quarterback by the Broncos, Cardinals and Vikings, ESPN reported Saturday, narrowing the field for a rare quality starting QB who hits the open market.
Notably, the Browns, who own the Nos. 1 and 4 picks in the draft, are not believed to be in the sweepstakes.
These four teams are planning how to structure a deal to lure Cousins, the report stated, and they’re thinking shorter-term deals — potentially for three years — with a large amount of the money guaranteed. They are getting creative about how to entice the quarterback Washington never committed to, before trading for Alex Smith. The Post cited a league source saying the Jets could offer Cousins $60 million in his first season as a way to front-load the deal.
While Cleveland’s exclusion is a surprise, the other teams’ inclusion is not. The Broncos have searched for a signal-caller since Peyton Manning retired, Arizona’s Carson Palmer retired this offseason and Minnesota has a trio of free agents (Sam Bradford, Teddy Bridgewater and Case Keenum).
