Jeff Fisher says he didn't respond to Vince Young's apology letter because his name was spelled wrong

Vince Young could have used an editor.

The former Titans quarterback attempted to apologize to his former coach, Jeff Fisher, in a letter last year but never heard back from him.

Fisher revealed on Saturday that he never wrote back because his name was spelled wrong so he was not sure if it was really from Young.

“Yes, I got a letter from Vince and I didn’t respond,” Fisher told paulkuharsky.com. “My name was spelled wrong on the letter, the letter came from the University of Texas, and I had no way of knowing if it was (really) from him. It came from the athletic department. But my name was spelled incorrectly.

“I still have it. But I didn’t know it was him so I felt no need to respond.”

Young did work at the University of Texas but Fisher added, “I thought if it was from him he would have maybe spelled my name right.”

Young opened up about his strained relationship with Fisher in an interview with Sports Illustrated last year in which he accused Fisher of canceling meetings without warning him, telling people he was suicidal, or that he would leak private conversations to the media.

Fisher declined to speak to Sports Illustrated, but said on Saturday that those accusations are false.

“I’ve been asked many, many times to comment in response to three of his comments, and I had nothing to gain by commenting because all three of his comments were false, they were not true,” he said. “I know the truth, so I stayed away from all that.”

Young played under Fisher from 2006-10 but was released after the 2010 season. Fisher also mutually parted ways with the Titans following that season, too.

Their strained relationship came to a head in a Week 11 game against Washington that season when Young exited with a thumb injury and Fisher did not allow him to re-enter the game. Young responded by removing his pads and tossing them into the stands and Fisher did not play him the remainder of the season.
