NCAA tournament games, scores, updates: Follow Thursday's Sweet 16 action live - Yahoo Sports

The Sweet 16 has arrived with a loaded slate of matchups. Sure, the first weekend of the men's NCAA tournament was fairly chalky, with few major upsets, but that's left us with an array of juicy matchups as we get deeper into the tournament.

The second wave of the tourney begins Thursday with the West and East regionals, which will feature two 1 seeds, two 2 seeds and plenty of basketball brand names, like North Carolina, UConn and Arizona.

Strap in for another fun day of college hoops.

Live50 updates

  • Now it's Alabama's turn as Grant Nelson drills a 3.

  • Cormac Ryan has also found the mark early. UNC now has a 19-14 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half.

  • A back-and-forth start with Alabama sees North Carolina take a 12-7 edge into the first media timeout. Elliot Cadeau — a pass-first point guard — is the surprise leading scorer with five points and a rare early 3-pointer.

  • We are underway with UNC vs. Alabama. The Tar Heels have won 10 of their last 11 games, with the sole loss coming at the hands of NC State in the ACC title game.

  • Final: UConn 82, SDSU 52

UConn is moving on after another dominant showing and will face the winner of Illinois and Iowa State. As is usually the case, the Huskies got offense from all over the place. Cam Spencer led the way with 18 points while Tristen Newton had 17 and Stephon Castle had 16 points and 11 boards.

  • Pretty impressive stat right here:

  • Meanwhile, UConn is absolutely blasting SDSU. There are only a few minutes left on the clock and the Huskies are up 25. The rebounding margin is a big difference; the Huskies have a 47-25 advantage.

  • Final: Clemson 77, Arizona 72

The Tigers are still dancing and move on to play the winner of UNC vs. Alabama. Chase Hunter and PJ Hall lead the way for the Tigers with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

  • Arizona just looked lost down the stretch — especially on defense. The Wildcats had cut it to 3 but didn't realize they needed to foul and Clemson throws it ahead for an easy score to win it.

  • Clemson is heading to the Elite Eight.

The No. 6 Tigers take down No. 2 Arizona 77-72 after a late layup from Dillon Hunter ensured that Arizona wasn't going to be able to come back.

Dillon's layup with just less than 10 seconds left came after his brother had this basket to give Clemson a five-point lead with 25.7 seconds to go.

If North Carolina beats Alabama later in the evening, we'll have an all-ACC matchup on Saturday in Los Angeles.

It's the first Elite Eight trip for the Tigers since 1980.

Arizona, meanwhile, is out of the NCAA tournament early for the third straight year. The Wildcats lost in the Sweet 16 as a No. 1 seed in 2022, lost in the first-round to No. 15 Princeton as a No. 2 seed last year, and are out in the Sweet 16 again this season.

  • Chase Hunter converts an and-one with 25.7 seconds to go that gives Clemson a 75-70 lead.

it was a heck of a drive to the basket and he got fouled by Jaden Bradley.

  • Jaden Bradley's 3-pointer cuts Clemson's lead over Arizona to 72-70 with 49.4 seconds left.

That's just Arizona's fifth 3-pointer of the game on 27 attempts.

  • Caleb Love is ice-cold (0 for 9 from 3-point range) for the Wildcats but Jaden Bradley is keeping them in it with just minutes left.

  • Clemson leads Arizona 66-63 with 2:23 to go. PJ Hall will be at the line for the Tigers after the under-4 timeout.

Arizona is within three despite Caleb Love shooting just 4 of 17 from the field and 0 of 9 from the 3-point lone

  • The Huskies are pulling away with just over 12 minutes left in the game.

  • Arizona keeps shooting 3-pointers for some inexplicable reason. The Wildcats are 3 of 21 from behind the arc and trail Clemson 65-58 with 5:42 to go.

  • Every time Arizona looks like it's about to seize control of the game, Clemson answers.

The latest Clemson answer involved a banked 3-pointer by Ian Schieffelin.

The Tigers lead Arizona 63-58 with 7:58 to go.

  • SDSU just can't compete on the boards. UConn now has 15 offensive rebounds and a 45-33 lead.

  • Clemson has held on after that Arizona push and leads 53-48 at the under-12 timeout. Joe Girard hit his first 3-pointer of the game to help put the Tigers back in control of the game.

You have to assume that Hall will be back in the game very soon.
