In a battle between the AFC's last two undefeated teams, the visiting Steelers dominated in all three phases during the first half to take a 24-7 lead into intermission. Ben Roethlisberger threw two first-half touchdown passes to Diontae Johnson, while Pittsburgh's defense held Derrick Henry to just 27 yards during the game's first 30 minutes. James Conner rushed for 60 yards, while Benny Snell scored on a one-yard touchdown run on Pittsburgh's second possession.
Pittsburgh, who jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead, went 7-of-7 on third down on their first two drives, as the Steelers out-gained the Titans 161-1 during the game's first 18 minutes. Tennessee was able to get on the board on their second possession, as Ryan Tannehill hit Corey Davis for a four-yard touchdown. Pittsburgh responded with another score, as a 24-yard run and an 18-yard catch by Conner set up Chris Boswell's 38-yard field goal. After another Titans punt, a 58-yard punt return by Ray-Ray McCloud set up Johnson's second touchdown, a nine-yard pass from Roethlisberger.
