Eight winners and four losers from Chiefs’ win against Buffalo Bills - Arrowhead Pride

Good teams do what they do best, but great teams are the ones that are able to reinvent themselves, win in unpredictable ways, keeping the rest of the league wondering what you have to do to beat them.

The Kansas City Chiefs took on a new identity on Monday afternoon, with a re-shuffled offensive line blowing open lanes for a running game that wouldn’t be denied. Here are some Chiefs that stood out in an uncharacteristic-but-still-dominant win against the Bills:

Winners

• Nick Allegretti, Daniel Kilgore and Mike Remmers: Arguably the least likely list of players you’d expect to see on this list — the new-look Chiefs offensive line was absolutely dominant against a good Bills defense. These guys stepped in for injured and often ineffective starters and put together a game that made the announcers and an all-time great take notice.

• Travis Kelce: Mr. Reliable came through again for the Chiefs offense. His two early touchdowns more than outweighed the fumble at the end of the half. Interestingly, Kelce lined up in the fullback position more this week, with Anthony Sherman out. We’ll see if that continues or not. Either way, it’s looking like another elite season for Kelce.

Travis Kelce is off to such a great start this season. With two touchdown grabs last night, he's now one of only three players in the NFL with 450+ receiving yards and 5+ TDs through Week 6, joining D.K. Metcalf and Calvin Ridley.

• Demarcus Robinson and Byron Pringle: With Sammy Watkins injured, the Chiefs needed a receiver who could get open and keep the chains moving. Against the Bills, these two guys combined to pick up the slack. Robinson led the receivers in snaps, catches and receiving yards. Pringle had two catches, but both were significant, including his 37-yarder that was the longest gain of the night and on a broken play. These two bring the physicality needed at the “X” receiver position, and they got the job done on Monday night.
• Clyde Edwards-Helaire: 94 yards in the first half, including a (young) career-long 31-yard run. He ended the game with 169 total yards and was a big reason the Chiefs were in control throughout this game. His ability to get upfield and make people miss is special. When will the team utilize his best attribute — as a receiver in the passing game?
• Chris Jones: It may not look like it from the box score, but Jones was fantastic on Monday. Beating blocks and disrupting the offense, No. 95 lives in the offensive backfield. He was a significant reason Josh Allen was uncomfortable, and the Bills managed barely over 200 yards of total offense.

Losers

• Charvarius Ward and Bashaud Breeland: The cornerback play was better this week, but the penalties were costly. Breeland had three and Ward had two, including a big pass interference call on a third-and-10. Both of these guys were far too handsy this week, even if they otherwise didn’t get beat that much. Maybe the refs were just calling it tight. Maybe it was strategic, and the Chiefs decided it was better to get a couple of flags than to give up some big plays? But the flags nearly gave life to a dangerous opponent, so on balance, it wasn’t great.
• Harrison Butker: Butker hit a pair of short field goals that kept the Chiefs stay in front of Buffalo. That being said, the missed extra points are becoming an issue. A couple of misses in a season can be overlooked. But it feels like we’re entering different territory now with Butkicker. If the Chiefs lose a game because of a missed extra point this season, it’s going to be maddening.
• Ricky Seals-Jones: The athletic tight end saw his first action as a Chief this week, as one of four active tight ends. His one target was dropped. Not exactly what he or the team hoped for when he signed with Kansas City this offseason. It will be interesting to see if he is active next week.
