Tom Brady won't be wearing creamsicle in his first season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ahead of the six-time Super Bowl champion quarterback and three-time MVP's maiden voyage with the team, the franchise unveiled new uniforms on Tuesday.
But instead of an orange-clad scheme synonymous with the franchise's ill-fated early years, Brady and his new teammates will be outfitted with a look inspired by the team's most prosperous stretch, including its Super Bowl XXXVII title squad.
The shift returns the Buccaneers to fairly straightforward combinations of a deeper red, pewter and white. The red and pewter jerseys include pewter pants, while the white jerseys are paired with white pants.
The all-pewter outfit will be the team's Color Rush option.
"This new but familiar look is a direct result of the valuable feedback we received from our fans," Buccaneers owner and co-chairman Ed Glazer said. "We are excited to return to our classic Super Bowl era uniforms while also introducing a sleek Color Rush uniform that showcases our signature pewter in a new and dramatic way. The refreshed classic design of our home and away combinations bridges our past with our exciting new future, and we are confident it will resonate with our fans."
The redesign is the franchise's fourth major rebranding since its inception in 1976. The Buccaneers last came up with a new look in 2014, but the use of a number font resembling a digital clock sparked some derision from fans. That change was scrapped in the latest move.
Along with Brady's arrival, the uniform change serves as the potential opening for a new chapter for the organization. The Buccaneers have the second-longest active postseason drought in the NFL, having not reached the playoff since 2007.
Tampa Bay is the first NFL team to reveal a major uniform change this offseason. The Cleveland Browns are set to show off a new look later in April, with the Los Angeles Rams and Atlanta Falcons also to follow at some point later on.
