Joe Burrow on turning around Bengals: ‘If anybody can do it, I can’ - Cincy Jungle

This has been a very long offseason for Bengals fans. After enduring a terrible 2019 season, national media outlets tried to create a situation where presumptive first-overall pick Joe Burrow didn’t want to play in Cincinnati.

We’ve come a long way. We have heard Burrow crush those rumors, and now he leaves no doubt on his expectations for what he plans to do if (when) he gets drafted by the Bengals.

When it was brought up that he seems willing to take on the challenge of turning around a franchise like the Bengals or another struggling team on The Big Podcast with Shaq, the LSU quarterback had this to say:

“Teams are picking at the top for a reason, and I feel like I’ve won everywhere I’ve ever been and that if anybody can do it, I can do it.”

It doesn’t get much better than that does it?

Burrow is clearly going to be the pick barring some insane trade offer by the Dolphins at this point. Statements like these help set the tone whenever teams are able to get together. He clearly has the attitude of not being okay with the way things were, which is exactly what this team needs after its worst season since prior to the Marvin Lewis era.

The future Bengals quarterback also reiterated the fact that if he had the choice of going to a good team or first overall, he would choose the good team.

“I want to get drafted to a good organization that is going to maximize my talents,” Burrow said. “I’ve won everywhere that I’ve been and never had a losing season in sports from the moment I was five years old. I’m not a loser, I just want to go somewhere where I can win.”

Luckily for Burrow, the Bengals may be setup to have a decent turnaround with him next season. Mike Brown and the Blackburns really got off their wallets and spent to improve the league’s last ranked defense, and the offense is set to have A.J. Green return along with other skill position players like Tyler Boyd and Joe Mixon. Jonah Williams, the Bengals first-round offensive tackle from last season, will also be set to go and improve a struggling offensive line.

There are plenty of pieces already in place for Burrow in his rookie season, and the Bengals still will have a whole draft after him to help set the ground work to launch the Zac Taylor and Burrow era. Things won’t be starting exactly as Burrow imagined his NFL career would start, but he is rolling with the punches.

“I was really looking forward to walking that stage, walking that red carpet and hearing my name called but I think having it at home with my family is going to be just as special,” Burrow said. “I don’t really have any plans yet because I don’t know what it’s going to look like.”

It is kind of sad and eerie that this draft is going to be so different from what we’ve all become accustomed to. It is the little things like that moment of walking across that stage after being selected first-overall that Burrow will never experience. However, maybe he will be able to create some even more memorable moments in a Bengals’ jersey to make up for it.

Get excited Cincinnati, you are getting a great quarterback with a world class attitude.
