The College Football Playoff is here and College GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit is anxiously awaiting two showdowns featuring three unbeatens and a veteran one-loss team itching to win their first semifinal game in program history.
One of the major storylines heading into Saturday's primetime game pitting Clemson and Ohio State is the status of Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields, who could be limited in the run game with a knee issue.
"It's impossible to know if (Fields) gets tweaked," Herbstreit told reporters Friday. "I think, going into the game, he's going to play with a smaller brace. When I watched him against Wisconsin, I thought, 'Man, he's not at 100 percent.' I think, after having three weeks to get recovered, treatment, I think he's going to go in there and play.
"If Ohio State's going to be competitive, he's going to have to run the football and I think he's a big factor. Not just designed runs and zone reads, but especially 3rd-and-7 — as he's done all year — things break down and he takes off for a first down. It's a big part of who their identity is. "So I think, going in, it's OK. But we'll see what happens throughout the game."
Through 13 games, Fields has completed 208 of 308 passes (67.5 percent) for 2,953 yards and 40 touchdowns to just one interception.
