COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State football has already beaten Wisconsin pretty convincingly this season in a 38-7 home win.
That game was played in terrible weather conditions. On Saturday that won’t be the case inside Lucas Oil Stadium where the Buckeyes’ speed will be on full display in an indoor stadium. Though head coach Ryan Day feels that Wisconsin still shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Wisconsin has been successful at running a system that heavily favors running backs that’s allowed it to play in six of nine Big Ten Championship games. That’s one more than Ohio State.
“I got a tremendous amount of respect for Coach (Paul) Chyrst, how he does things," Day said. “He’s got enough wrinkles to keep you off balance. But what he does, they’re very fundamentally sound. It’s just hard to find an inch on them because everything they do is so sound. They’re not going to run bad plays, bad looks. They’re not going to just give you the ball and turn it over. He’s been like that ever since he started coaching. That’s why they’ve been so successful. It’s he and that whole coaching staff. He put together a great staff therein. All three phases they do an excellent job.”
That system has worked against every team in the conference, but the Buckeyes. Running back Jonathan Taylor is averaging 2.7 yards per carry in two games against Ohio State. That includes a 2017 Big Ten Championship game where he ran for a career-low 41 yards. Ohio State is aware that he’ll be trying to redeem that performance.
